The City is working to implement a new licensing & permitting platform for individual & company contractors. The new process will be 100% online. It'll allow individuals to apply, renew, & pay for licenses from home and/or work. The platform will streamline the application process, provide updates, and allow individuals to talk directly with staff. More info will be announced at a later date.
The Johnson Pool on East 8th Street in south Cheyenne has served the community for several decades. The City of Cheyenne is currently in the process of designing a new pool facility to replace the existing Johnson Pool. The City will work to identify funding once this phase of design work is complete.
The new pool facility may have a number of features and upgrades not currently present at Johnson Pool. The redesigned facility is expected to include:
Additional amenities may include, but are not limited to:
The existing Johnson Pool is an important amenity for the community and has served Cheyenne for more than 70 years, having been operational since 1954.
However, as the pool has aged, maintenance has become costly and has even prevented the pool from opening as early in the season as possible. In 2024, the pool opening had to be delayed due to leaks and mandatory repair of the pool shell. In 2023, the pool was only open for six weeks due to weather conditions, as the exterior ambient air temperature must be 60 degrees or higher to open.
The facilities at Johnson Pool are dated and the size of the facility only allows a maximum of 80 occupants, limiting use on high-demand days. The current pool also has 5 lap lanes and a diving board, and a rebuilt facility would increase the number of aquatic recreation options.
The City is currently accepting input on what residents would like to see included in a new pool. A survey is open until Aug. 16, 2024:

No. The intention of the City is for the pool to remain in Lincoln Park. However, the replacement pool may be located in a different part of Lincoln Park, depending on the final design.
The City has not yet identified funding for the new pool, as the project is only in the design stage. Once design is complete, the City will have a better estimate of the cost of the new facility. A number of funding options are being explored, including the next 6th Penny ballot.
Yes! The City wants to hear what residents would like to see in a new pool facility. An open house was held at Destiny Church on Aug. 7, 2024, and the City is also conducting an online survey in August 2024.
