Wyoming’s annual “point-in time count” of homeless individuals and families begins Jan. 24, 2024, and opportunities for volunteering with the process are available.

The count is an unduplicated count on a single day of the people in a community who are experiencing homelessness. It includes individuals in both sheltered and unsheltered populations and takes place in every county and municipality. Data can be collected for seven days after the date of the count, which is Jan. 24.

Wyoming Continuum of Care, a program affiliated with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is leading the effort.

The point-in-time count plays an important role in HUD funding, with certain types of grants awarded based on the results of the count. The count also helps identify gaps in services and its data can be used to develop policy and planning decisions at the state level.

The City of Cheyenne is a beneficiary of some grants awarded by point-in-time data.

Volunteer opportunities are being coordinated by Recover Wyoming, which can be reached at 307-421-7261.
