Published on May 16, 2024
Rooted in Cheyenne will be conducting its 15th neighborhood tree planting event on Saturday, May 18. Local green industry professionals, Rooted in Cheyenne board members, City Forestry staff and volunteers will be planting around 150 trees along Cheyenne’s streets, which is Rooted’s largest planting to date.
Thanks to sponsorship from American Forests and funding from Microsoft, Rooted in Cheyenne will be providing 50 free trees in select neighborhoods that desperately need tree canopy.
Motorists are asked to slow down and be cautious of crews planting trees in the right-of-way.
This neighborhood tree planting event coincides with Armed Forces Day which is a day to honor and thank the men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces. Rooted in Cheyenne will provide volunteers a specially designed t-shirt and will kick off the event with the singing of the National Anthem in commemoration of the day.
Rooted in Cheyenne is a nonprofit responsible for planting over 1,400 street trees since 2017. Rooted in Cheyenne is dedicated to improving Cheyenne’s tree canopy and fostering a program for volunteers and sponsors to make a positive impact in their community.
Rooted in Cheyenne is supported through generous sponsorships from local businesses and organizations. This year’s platinum sponsors are American Forests, Microsoft, Wyoming State Forestry Division, and Laramie County Conservation District. The program provides homeowners with low-cost trees to be planted in or adjacent to the public right-of-way. Trees cost $50 and homeowners are allowed two trees per planting season.
