The City of Cheyenne’s Community Recreation and Events Department will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the new Cheyenne Gymnastics facility on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m.

The new building is located at 1700 Paul Smith Way, just west of the Ice & Events Center. CRE staff helped move equipment into the new building earlier this month.

“Gymnastics has been a popular, growing program for us and the gymnastics facility will allow us to expand our programming and include the many kids waiting for a spot to open,” said Jason Sanchez, Community Recreation and Events director.

522 children currently participate in Cheyenne Gymnastics, and CRE has around a hundred more on a wait list.

Cheyenne Gymnastics will be the main occupant of the new facility but uses will be expanded in the future to include space for cheer classes, tumbling, judo, and taekwondo.

Wednesday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony will include the opportunity for interested residents to see inside the new building.

Construction of the Cheyenne Gymnastics facility was approved by City Council in January 2024 at a cost of $5.4 million. Funding came from the sale of the old Neighborhood Facility, the Ice & Events Center Fund, general fund reserves, and ARPA.

Richardson Construction was the construction contractor and TDSi was the architect for the building. Construction was completed four months earlier than scheduled.
