Residents reminded of fireworks safety and rules in Cheyenne

Cheyenne Fire Rescue and the Cheyenne Police Department are reminding residents to be safe celebrating the July 4 holiday and that restrictions apply on fireworks in city limits.

Sparklers, smoke devices, and novelties are the only legal consumer fireworks that can be purchased and used within the city. All other types of fireworks are illegal to use.

“The use of consumer fireworks is not allowed anywhere within the city limits of Cheyenne, including private property, except for sparklers, smoke devices, and novelties,” said Bob Mason, Chief of Prevention at Cheyenne Fire Rescue. “To prevent injuries and possible death, Cheyenne Fire Rescue encourages residents to leave the fireworks to the professionals.”

Violators could be issued a citation and possible fine.

Residents can call 307-637-6525 to report firework concerns. Do not call 9-1-1 to report fireworks violations unless there is an emergency.

The Cheyenne Police Department will have an increased law enforcement presence throughout the city. The DUI Command Vehicle will be posted to watch for impaired drivers and officers will be assigned to watch for fireworks-related offenses.

For those who enjoy large firework displays, Cheyenne Frontier Days and the City of Cheyenne will once again host a fireworks show and this year’s display is designed to be seen from locations all over Cheyenne. Residents can view the show from their neighborhood or at Lions Park (Frontier Park will not be open as a viewing location).
