National Walking Day is Wednesday, April 2, and the City of Cheyenne encourages residents to grab a pair of sneakers and take 30 minutes to enjoy the city’s outdoor spaces.

The American Heart Association established National Walking Day in 2007 to encourage people to move more throughout their day.

“Walking is one of the most versatile forms of exercise because you can do it just about anytime, anywhere, morning, noon, or night!” said Jeanie Shrednik, the parks and Greenway planner for the city. “Cheyenne’s 47 miles of Greenway, city parks, and neighborhoods provide great routes to go for a walk.”

Some suggestions to make a 30-minute walk more enjoyable include:

  • Wear comfortable clothes.
  • Take a friend or pet to pass the time.
  • Make sure to stretch those muscles.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Move your arms, too.
  • Make sure you have good posture.
  • If you work remotely, take a conference call on the go.
