The Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is excited to announce the launch of its new Sidewalk Improvement Program, which will improve walkability, safety, and ADA accessibility of the downtown district.

The program is a significant step forward in enhancing the infrastructure of Cheyenne’s downtown area by addressing sidewalk repairs and improvements.

“We are thrilled to see this program move forward,” said DDA Administrator Kylie Dorr. “It’s important to ensure our downtown is a safe, accessible, and an inviting place for residents and visitors. This program not only addresses necessary repairs but also strengthens our relationships with downtown property owners by sharing the cost burden.”

Typically, property owners are responsible for the entire cost of sidewalk repairs, but under the Sidewalk Improvement Program, the DDA will cover 50% of the repair costs, while property owners will be responsible for the remaining 50%. The City Engineer’s Office will partner with the DDA to secure contractors and coordinate repairs/improvements. This cooperative effort reflects the ongoing commitment of the DDA and the City to invest in the downtown area and support local businesses.

Earlier this week, the Cheyenne City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City and DDA. This MOU coordinates the repair of sidewalks by the City Engineer’s office and allows the City to receive reimbursement from the DDA for the sidewalk repairs.

The first phase of the program will focus on high-priority areas where sidewalks have been in disrepair. The DDA and City Engineer’s Office will work closely with business owners to coordinate repairs, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations. As the program progresses, more sidewalks in the downtown area will be assessed and included in future repair projects.

The DDA encourages downtown property owners to participate in the program and take advantage of this cost-sharing opportunity to enhance the safety and appearance of their properties.
